We’ve long dreamed of having children of Maisha and Mama Grace come from Kenya to attend our annual gala in Oklahoma. Light the Future 2014 saw the fruition of that dream!
On Saturday, October 18th, the Light the Future Choir sang and danced their way into the hearts of the attendees of Maisha’s annual Light the Future fundraiser in Oklahoma City. Several of the children told their own story and the profound effect Maisha, as well as the Oklahoma community, has had on their life and hope for a brighter future through Legacy of Hope educational sponsorships.
We were thrilled to honor Mama Grace as the one who started it all. What love and tenacity she has, we all aspire to be like you!
Our keynote speaker Michael McAfee summed up beautifully a lesson he learned in his travels to East Africa:”Don’t give because you pity them, give because you know and love these kids.”
A huge thank you to all who joined us in a wonderful evening and helped make it such. You helped us raise $148,000 for Maisha. Out of that, $38,900 was raised in our Fund-the-Academy Auction and will go directly to building the Maisha Academy. 67 children also received Legacy of Hope sponsorships for education!
We are blessed to have you as supporters and offer you our most sincere thanks. We could not do this without you.
We’ve made all the pictures available for you to download or print through the end of November directly from http://maisha.smugmug.com/2014/.
Save the date for Light the Future 2015 – Saturday, November 7th, 2015.
