LIVE from Kenya– Week 5

Can this week get any better? God continues to do BIG things at Maisha!

Bridgeway Team Maisha Arrives
As we say farewell to the Vintage team, we are excited to welcome our biggest Team Maisha missions team of the summer, Bridgeway Church, who will spend the next week at Maisha. With some members returning and others visiting for the first time, they are prepared to leave their hearts here forever. They will accomplish several big things this week including launching a discipleship curriculum called The Gospel Project. They will also help in the Maisha kitchen, shambas (gardens), academy, child sponsorship Legacy of Hope project and make visits alongside our Living Positive home workers to the slums. Pictured below is the Bridgeway Team Maisha, two more members will arrrive Tues to help launch The Gospel Project.

Discipleship
As Bridgeway has served at Maisha over the last several years, their desire collided with our own heart’s desire to provide lasting training and discipleship for the children of Maisha. They have customized The Gopsel Project in their own Oklahoma City church and we are honored they are working with us to implement it at Maisha! A huge thank you to Bridgeway Church and Lifeway for making this happen.

Teaching will begin “In the Beginning” at Genesis and progress over the next 3 years through the whole bible, always pointing back to Jesus. It will include meaningful times of worship, age appropriate lessons and activites, key bible verses and a quiet journal time for each child to develop their personal relationship with Jesus. The Maisha Academy students will receive a new lesson each Friday which will be repeated for all who attend bible study and church at Maisha on Sundays. We’re blessed to be stewards of their spiritual lives and “train them up in the way they should go.”

Light the Future Choir
As mentioned in our last blog, we announced the Maisha Light the Future Choir will be coming to the United States this fall. If you haven’t read about it yet, I highly encourage you to look into it https://www.maishaproject.org/index.php?blog&a=view&article_id=23. We still need 16 more people to help fundraise for them to be able to come. You will be assigned a specific choir member. We’ve made it easy for you by developing your personalized microsite fundraising page. All you have to do is spread the word and direct people to the site. Get started today by contacting Jennifer Whitener at jennifer@maishaproject.org.

We also have plenty of openings for the Choir team to perform at local churches and schools if you are interested in a fantastic and incredible worship/cultural experience. Although we cannot confirm the exact dates they will be here due to visas, we are estimating from the beginning of October and departing around the first of December.  More details will be coming soon. If you are interested in hosting/scheduling the Maisha Choir contact Lauren Hatfield at lauren@maishaproject.org. They are practicing hard and eager to entertain you or as they say, “sit back, relax and enjoy!”

Maisha Medical Center Opening
We are excited to announce another INCREDIBLE blessing that has occurred. The Maisha Medical Center FINALLY received an official license to open their doors to the villages beyond limited medical missions! We are looking forward to serving the community and providing health care to the children in a more permanent ongoing way. Currently we are in the final stages of preparing the clinic to be opened. Once the toilets are complete and the staff is hired, we will be ready to open our doors. We are still looking for donations to help complete the toilets. Their existence alone will exponentially boost public health! If you are interested in donating or helping fundraise contact Jennifer Whitener at jennifer@maishaproject.org.

The Maisha Project
Finally, our last bit of news is a change, our new name! If you haven’t heard yet, we’ve transitioned from our old name to “The Maisha Project.” This more fully encompasses every project we are proud to be a part of.  Please be aware all of our social media has changed accordingly, so mention and tag Maisha in your posts: #maishaproject, #maishameanslife, #maisha. Find us @maishaproject on Instagram and Twitter. Our Facebook profile name is Maisha Project https://www.facebook.com/maishaproject.

Thanks for keeping up with all of us here in Kenya, we sure do appreciate it!
