Bella’s Playground

A new playground equipped with a bright yellow slide, swings, climbing gym, basketball goal and teeter totter now sits behind the Maisha Academy. As soon as the recess bell rings, the Maisha Academy students run towards the playground with excitement, ready to jump and climb on Bella’s Playground.

In May 2015, Bella Marco, a 16 year old from Lancaster, Pa., decided she wanted to make a difference in the lives of kids at Maisha. Marco, the sophomore class president at Hempfield High School, created a club dedicated to bettering peoples’ lives around the globe.

The club, Hempfield Students in Action, raised over $4,000 and completely funded the construction of the brand new playground, which was completed in Jan 2016. One person’s passion was able to start a revolution at Hempfield High School that will now make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in rural Kenya.

The Maisha Project is thankful for anyone and everyone who contributed to make the dream become a reality. We encourage you to find your passion and take a step towards making a difference in the lives of others.
