Leaving a Legacy of Hope
Legacy of Hope began when Anna Lanson, a Swedish missionary, gave Maisha’s founder Beatrice Williamson a scholarship for education. Anna gave Beatrice a chance to succeed in life and tell her story. We offer you the same opportunity to sow into the future of a child through Maisha’s Legacy of Hope child sponsorship project.
One Person Can Make a Difference
Individuals often feel powerless when confronted with the issue of global poverty. When you make it possible for a child to get an education, you make a tangible and lasting impact in a world that is too often defined by struggle. By connecting a poor child with a caring sponsor, Maisha makes it possible for one person to have a great impact on the world.
Why Sponsorship is Needed
Orphans and destitute children all over the world suffer in silence. Born into poverty, these children live without access to education, medical care, adequate housing, clothing, appropriate food, or a chance for a better future. Maisha operates in the Nyanza Province of Kenya with the highest rates of HIV, malaria and poverty in the country which has left millions of children orphaned. Maisha meets their immediate needs of food and shelter; however, without education, the cycle of poverty and death continues. If a girl in Kenya is not given the opportunity for education, she is usually forced into marriage and bearing children by the age of 13. Education breaks this vicious cycle and enhances the quality of life for the child and their community.
How Sponsorship Works
Maisha child sponsorships operate on a community based care model which keeps children in the homes of caregivers where they learn cultural traditions and develop skills that are vital to their future. Caregivers may be grandparents, extended relations, or widows in the community. Frequently, a child is identified as “vulnerable” or as a “partial orphan,” meaning one or both parents are living but are unable to feed the child or send them to school. This model ensures they receive the best personal care and nurturing as well as a proper education.
Sponsors get much in return. Regular letters and photos from your sponsored child help you see the transformation in their life. Sponsorship also gives you a tremendous sense of satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment that you’ve helped them have a better life.
A Legacy of Hope sponsorship really means LIFE! When you partner with us to make a difference, you enable a child to create a better future for themselves and generations to come. A child with a sponsor is a child with hope. Your Legacy of Hope sponsorship provides a child the tools they need to succeed in life.
